About Us
The Lake Michigan Chapter was established
in May 2003 by ASA members who recognized that growing azalea plants near Lake Michigan was
different then in other areas of the country. It was felt that a new
chapter would provide more benefits for its Midwest members.
The purpose of the Lake Michigan Chapter is to stimulate interest in...and appreciation of...azaleas by
the study of azalea culture including: selection, growing, hybridization,
and propagation.
Our goals include:
- bringing together those who have interest in exchanging knowledge of azaleas through meetings, plant sales, and visits to gardens
and nurseries,
- engaging in speaking engagements for the general public,
- covering a large geographic area, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and other parts of the Midwest, and
- supporting the objectives of the Azalea Society of America.
